How to request a clear lawyer quote in Dubai
A useful legal quote starts with a defined task. ‘Handle my case’ can mean an initial review, a demand letter, negotiations, filing, hearings, an appeal or enforcement. Give each firm the same concise facts and ask for the same written breakdown. This improves comparison without asking you to diagnose the legal issue yourself.
Send a short, neutral case summary
State the matter type, the court or authority if known, the current stage and the outcome you want. List the people and organisations involved, any case or reference number, and the dates shown on recent notices or decisions. Describe dates as facts; ask the lawyer to identify any deadline rather than calculating one yourself.
Attach or list the few documents needed to understand the request, such as the contract, notice, decision or key correspondence. Avoid a large unsorted upload. A one-page chronology and document index help a firm see the work involved and identify what is still missing.
- Matter type and forum, if known
- Names of all people and entities
- Current stage and reference number
- Dates shown on notices or decisions
- Desired outcome
- Key documents and chronology
Define the service you want priced
Ask the firm to price the specific stage you need: consultation, document review, written advice, correspondence, negotiation, filing, hearings, appeal or enforcement. Request a written scope that says what is included, what is excluded and what event marks completion of that stage.
Ask who will perform the work and who will supervise it. If court representation may be needed, confirm who is authorised to appear in the relevant forum. The Dubai Legal Affairs Department directory covers registered advocates and legal consultants and licensed advocacy and legal consultancy firms in Dubai; use the official names when checking the proposed team.
- Included stage and deliverables
- Excluded work and later stages
- Responsible lawyer or legal consultant
- Court appearance responsibility, if relevant
- Expected next review point
Compare the full cost structure
Ask whether the quote is fixed, staged, hourly or based on another method; what advance payment is requested; and when later payments become due. Request the assumptions behind any estimate and a written process for approving work outside the original scope.
Separate professional fees from court or authority charges, translation, experts, service, travel and other disbursements. The federal legal-profession framework and 2025 professional code discuss scope, fee estimates, expenses and responsible practitioners. Use those headings as a practical comparison template, then ask the firm to explain anything unclear before engagement.
